Great interview and I love Warda and Iana, however: Bellydance did not originate just in Egypt, it is currently and has been most dominant there for a very long time. Egypt is indeedvthe epicentre and Mother of it today, but it did not originate just from Egypt if we trace it back. Many countries in the Middle East have had their history and culture wiped from various invasions (can be found in temple carvings and old paintings/ carved metals), Egypt have managed to hold on to much of their culture, especially in the Arts. Also, Bellydance is and was performed on stage in many other Middle Eastern countries including Iran and Turkey (just look up dancer Jamileh from the 70s), the reason you don't see it on stage in Iran anymore is because dancing was sadly banned under the islamic regime since 1979 and all bellydancers had to flee the country, but it was deeply ingrained in their culture and history for many centuries prior to the impact of islam. Sincerely and with Love, from a person born and raised in the Middle East.

As an arab person its a part of culture we just dance to enjoy it and have a good time thats all no worshiping or anything like that in our culture but i don't know about what uses other cultures use it for
